Managed by the well-credentialed hands of Tanya and Mark Cornish, Gravelly Beach Marine is a traditional boatyard situated on the Tamar River in northern Tasmania. Steeped in history, the boatyard has operated on its current site since WWII, building and maintaining vessels of all shapes and sizes. Gravelly Beach Marine provides a range of marine services, whether you want to work on your own boat or engage the professional services of professional marine industry tradesmen, located either onsite or nearby. A well stocked chandlery is on hand – if they don’t have what you need, they’ll order it for you!
Gravelly beach Marine is located midway along Tamar River with Launceston to the south and George Town at the mouth of the 70km long river.
Approaching from the north, the Batman Bridge has a clearance of 91m. From the south, navigation should be performed close to high tide due to shallow sections in the channel. Stoney Brook runs alongside the boatyard, providing access to the sheltered creek along with access to two slipways. The channel is marked and it’s recommended that you stay between the red and green piles.
Three slipways can handle vessels up to 50 feet to a maximum of 30 tonne. Gravelly Beach Marine offers a number of boat storage options:
20 swing moorings
14 pile berths in Stoney Creek
6 hard stand cradles for boats over 30ft
16 hardstand cradles for boats up to 30 ft (max 5 tonne)
Land storage for boats on trailers
Fully enclosed shed for all weather protection
If you’re planning a period of vessel maintenance, or intending to cruise the Tamar River and need an overnight mooring, or something from the chandlery, give us a call. We’d love to see you in this special part of Tasmania soon!
